Dana M. David-Walsh

Biography

The majority of my career has been spent providing counseling to an adolescent population in a variety of school settings from public to alternative to residential schools. I temporarily stepped away from direct service work and moved into teaching when my children were young and have taught courses on social problems, social policy and educational innovations. Eight years ago, I returned to a full-time social work position at Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School, where I served in the role of school social worker until this fall when I moved into the position of Director of Student Support Services. Because of how much I enjoy teaching, however, I have continued to teach at Stonehill for the duration of that time.   

My connections to Stonehill run deep. I have been married to a fellow Stonehill alumnus for 25 years. Two of our three children are now in college. Although they are not at Stonehill, we will continue to hope that there’s a chance that our youngest will apply and decide to attend! Also, my mother-in-law is retired from Stonehill’s Health Services Clinic, where she was a nurse practitioner. For at least 12 years, I have taught a Learning Community class with Heather Perry, one of Stonehill’s Reference Librarians; Heather and I have a friendship which began in our sophomore year as Stonehill students, predating our teaching partnership. Together we wrote: Good Sociology and Good Service Learning: Designing a Collaborative Relationship to Accomplish Mutual Goals and Currents in Teaching and Learning, Worcester State University.
