Biography

A cultural anthropologist by training and an expert on Poland, Prof. Erica Tucker's recent book, Remembering Occupied Warsaw, is concerned with collective memory of state-sponsored violence and, in particular, with how elderly residents of Warsaw, Poland remember and narrate their experiences growing up during World War II.

Professor Tucker's latest research project focuses on how this same period of history is commemorated in museums and public rituals.

Professor Tucker serves as the program director of the anthropology program and is also advisor to a student-run Polish Table/Polski Stól, which provides an opportunity for students to speak Polish and explore Polish culture through literature, films, excursions, and cuisine.
