Leyda M. Almodovar Velazquez

Biography
Leyda M. Almodovar Velazquez grew up in Yauco, Puerto Rico and completed a Bachelor's degree at the University of Puerto Rico- Mayagüez. She came to Stonehill after completing her doctoral studies at the University of Iowa where she served as an instructor for one year and teaching assistant for four years. In 2013 and 2014, she received the Catherine Wegner Outstanding Mathematics Teaching Assistant Award, recognizing outstanding teaching assistants in the mathematics department. During her graduate studies, she completed a certificate in College Teaching. She also worked as a graduate assistant at the research program MSRI-UP in 2014. Her dissertation is titled "Studying brain networks via topological data analysis and hierarchical clustering".
Her areas of interest include DNA self-assembly, topological data analysis, graph theory, and applications to biology.
