Help Wanted: Graphic Design, Marketing, and Social Media Interns
Are you an aspiring graphic designer, social media marketer, or journalist looking to build your resume? We would love to hear from you!
We are hiring two (unpaid) fall-semester interns to assist with our marketing and social media initiatives. If you join our team, you’ll be helping us in the following areas: coordinating our social media posts and attracting new followers to our social media streams (Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook); designing marketing materials (brochures, infographics, posters, etc.) to market the library’s services, resources, and events; or writing news and feature stories for the library’s newsletter.
What you do depends on your own interests and skill set. Previous interns wrote library newsletter stories on topics such as the increasing number of attempts to ban books from public and school libraries and issues of institutional bias related to how race, gender, sexuality, and religions are classified in library catalogs.
Other interns have crafted social media campaigns that have led to a measurable increase in the number of views and followers across our social media platforms. Still others have worked to design marketing materials for library events.
We are looking for students who are skilled writers and/or have experience working with social media in prior internships or through volunteer experiences. Applicants should be rising juniors or seniors, and academic credit is required for this internship. Business majors must commit 12 hours/week and all other majors are required to complete 8 hours to receive credit.
The team meets weekly (meeting times are typically adjusted to accommodate interns’ schedules) for one hour. The remainder of the weekly commitment is flexible. Students can work on assigned projects independently, at a time and place that is convenient.
Check out our posting on Handshake! If you are interested but unavailable this semester, don’t worry. We anticipate hiring one or two interns each semester.
