Stonehill College is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy living and learning environment for all members of the campus community.  There are times, when members of the campus community notice that a student is struggling in ways that could potentially impact the student's ability to succeed and maintain overall wellbeing at college.  There are also times when concerns arise because a student's behaviors interfere with the living and learning environment around him/her.  To that end, the College has developed a Needs Assessment Team to assist with the early identification of students of concern, so that a plan can be developed to best support the needs of the students and the community.

The Needs Assessment Team is chaired by the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students. Members include representatives from the following offices:

  • Academic Services
  • Accessibility Services
  • Campus Police
  • Community Standards
  • Counseling Services
  • Health Services
  • Intercultural Affairs
  • Residence Life

The Needs Assessment Team meets weekly to discuss situations brought to its attention by concerned community members.  The team then works to identify resources necessary to best support students' health and wellbeing, and to best ensure a positive environment for the overall community.  Below are examples of the types of scenarios reported to the Needs Assessment Team; however, community members are encouraged to bring any concerns impacting a student's well being and success to the attention of the team:

  • academic difficulty
  • excessive or unexplained absences
  • concerns regarding physical or emotional health
  • difficulties adjusting to the college experience
  • concerning or disruptive classroom behaviors
  • potential signs of self-injury
  • stressors related to family/home environment

Members of the campus community, including faculty, staff, and student peers who are concerned about a particular student, are encouraged to notify the Needs Assessment Team.
