Monthly Recycling Update
Your commitment to the College's "Stonehill Goes Green" program has amounted to a total 16.84 tons of single stream recycling for the month of November, 2022. That is 20% of our mainstream waste for that month!
Year to Date Update
So far this fiscal year (7/1/22 - 11/30/22) we have collected 70 tons of single stream recycling materials. That's over 17% of our total mainstream waste. It's also a savings of:
- 1,196 trees
- 492,520 gallons of water
- 288,476 kW of electricity
- 211 cubic yards of landfill
- 26,737 gallons of oil
- 4,222 lbs of air pollutants

Stonehill College has contracted with recycling vendor NRRA (Northeast Resource Recovery Association) to pick up and process our recycling.
Recycling bins are located in all offices on Campus as well each residence hall. Facilities Management empties these bins on a weekly schedule, and their contents are place in a large container behind Roche Dining Commons. These containers are emptied regularly by NRRA who then transports this material to central distribution center and issues the College a report. If you would like a recycling bin please submit a work request here.
Stonehill now does single stream recycling. This means that you no longer have to separate paper and plastic in to different bins. Now you can combine paper, glass, plastic, aluminum, etc. into one recycling container
In addition to paper, Stonehill also recycles the following items: cans, plastic & glass bottles, metal and plastic food containers, plastic bottles, batteries, glass, cell phones, computer and electronic equipment, light bulbs, inkjet & laserjet ink cartridges, waste oil, old college furniture, and mattresses.
We also recycle printer ink cartridges and cell phones. Drop-off sites have been set up at the following locations:
Duffy Building - East Elevator Landing
Roche Dining Commons - Front Main Entrance
Clock Farm - Main Office Lobby
Merkert-Tracy Hall - Break Rooms
In March of 2012 we invited representatives from Clean Green Solutions and Rochester Midland Corporation to train our custodians on green cleaning. They all successfully completed training and testing in "Rochester Midland's Certified Green Housekeeping Program" which is a recognized LEED program. So now all of our custodians are registered LEED certified in green cleaning!
