First Year & Transfer Student Information

You can access the fall housing application by going to myHill > myHousing > Applications > First Year Housing Application (Class of 2027).

Transfer students should complete the "Fall 2023 Housing Application (Class of 2024, 2025, 2026)."

Applications are due July 5th. Students can expect to see their housing assignment on myHousing the first week of August.

Incoming First Year Students:

Do you have a specific person (or two, or three) in mind to room with?

Incoming first-year students can roommate match with up to three other members of the class of 2027. Once you have all submitted your housing applications, you will be able to search for your desired roommate(s) by name on MyHill > MyHousing > Roommate Selection. 

You can then send a request to match as roommates. You must each send and accept a roommate request. (If you are matching with two or three roommates to share a triple or a quad, you must send and accept two or three roommate requests.)

Roommate matching for members of the Class of 2027 will open May 8, 2023 and is due July 5, 2023 (the same day the housing application is due). 

Transfer Students:

If you are entering Stonehill as a member of the class of 2026, 2025, or 2024 and have a specific student in mind you would like to room with (whether they are a returning Stonehill student or a fellow transfer student), you should each contact the Residence Life Office and request to be matched as roommates.

Students with a documented disability may request specific housing accommodations through Accessibility Resources.

The application deadline for new students is Thursday, June 15th. 

Students will hear about the status of their application shortly before housing assignments are released in the first week of August.

Students are encouraged to bring the following items to campus:

• Bed sheets (X-Long Twin)
• Blankets
• Pillows & Pillow Cases
• Toiletries
• Personal Health Items
  • Masks, Thermometer, Hand Soap & Hand Sanitizer, Disinfectant Wipes, Allergy/Pain medication
• Shower Caddy
• Towels
• Desk Lamp (halogen lamps are not permitted)
• Wastebasket
• Clothes Hangers
• Re-useable water bottle(s)
• Re-useable plastic food storage containers
• Re-useable utensils, plates, cups & coffee mug
• Re-useable to-go coffee mug
• Reuseable shopping bags
• Iron (must have automatic shutoff)
• Laundry Basket & High Efficiency Detergent
• Refrigerator (approximately 4.5 cu. ft. or smaller)
• Alarm Clock
• Television
• Room Decorations
• Coffee Maker (single serve - Keurig style are permitted).

The following items are prohibited by the College. Use/possession of these items may result in fines, a loss of merit points, or the loss of residency privileges:

• Cooking Appliances (Hot Plates, Broiler/Toaster Ovens, Popcorn Poppers, multi-cup coffee makers)
• Microwave Ovens
• Halogen Lamps
• Air Conditioners
• Candles/Incense
• Spider Extension Cords (also called Octopus Extension Cords)
• Bed Lofts (small risers other than concrete blocks are allowed)
• Waterbeds
• Firearms / Weapons
• Electric Water Coolers
• Any furniture not specifically labeled as compliant with Cal 117 fire safety regulations.
• Large Posters (larger than 24" X 36")
• Large Refrigerators (over 4.5 cubic feet)
• Alcohol and Other Drugs (Alcohol is only allowed in designated upper class areas for students of legal drinking age)
• Hookah, Juul, E-cigarettes, or any other smoking paraphernalia
• Hair Straighteners or Curling Irons without an automatic shutoff device
• Pets (other than fish)

While the majority of student bedrooms on campus are doubles, we do have a number of triples (rooms designed for 3 people), and quads (rooms designed for 4 people). Your student may be assigned to any of these room types. All rooms have one complete set of furniture for each student. Room and board charges are the same for all rooms.

First-year students living on campus may find themselves assigned to two or three roommates.  Rooms designed as natural triples and quads have been built and designed to accommodate three or four people. Students who are assigned to triples or quads usually have positive experiences, despite initial concerns about living with multiple roommates!

New-student room assignments will be posted on myHousing during the first week of August. In addition to receiving their building and room assignments, students will also receive the names and email address of their assigned roommate(s). We strongly encourage students to contact one another prior to opening day in the fall so that they can “break the ice” and share information about the items that each person intends to bring. Assignment notices also contain important information about moving onto campus and the orientation that will take place after they have checked into their rooms.

First-Year students are randomly placed by our Office, expect for the following reason:

• Students who have been accepted into a Special Interest Housing community are placed in those respective areas by our Office.

During the first few weeks of school, it is only natural that some students will feel homesick and call home asking their parents to pick them up for the weekend. Students miss their family, friends and significant others. But before you decide to pick them up for the weekend, keep in mind that it is important for students to begin forming relationships with other students on campus. If your son or daughter leaves campus every weekend, the adjustment may prove to be more difficult. While the other students in the hall are getting to know each other over the weekend, a student at home during that time may become more isolated. Try to encourage your son or daughter to get involved in campus life by attending weekend programs, volunteering for a service project or joining a student organization that focuses on his or her personal interest. These are great ways to meet others who share similar interests and to make new friends. You will notice great improvements each time you see your son or daughter.

Students can:

• Join Hall Council in every residence hall to put on programs, events, and be a leader in the hall.
• Apply to be an RA for their Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year.

Students can log into myHill to register their guest. A guest can be defined as a non-student, a family member, an alumnus, or another Stonehill student not assigned to a particular room.
