Required Tasks

Every new Stonehill student must complete the College Writing Placement Assessment by Thursday, June 1. You will write a short reflection, provide information about your reading and writing habits, and have an opportunity to indicate your interest in our Introduction to College Writing course. Your answers and writing sample will help us determine if you would benefit from additional writing instruction and support in your first semester at Stonehill.

If you have studied Chinese, German, French, Italian or Spanish in high school, you must complete a Language Placement Assessment in each of the languages you studied.

Your final language placement level will be determined by considering the grades you earned in the high school language course(s), the number of years you studied the language, and your score on the placement assessment.

You are required to take the Calculus Readiness Assessment if you are intending to major in Astronomy, Computer Science, Earth & Planetary Sciences, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, Photonics or Physics. Your assessment score will be combined with data from your admission record to allow us to make a recommendation as to which math course will be the best option for you in the fall.

If you are majoring in one of the other sciences, you are NOT required to take the Calculus Readiness Assessment because our recommendation is for you to take Pre-Calculus prior to taking Calculus. However, you may take the Calculus Readiness Assessment if you have a strong background in Calculus and would like to be able to bypass Pre-Calculus and go directly into Calculus.
