Commencement 2023 FAQs
Yes. You can find the complete schedule on the main Commencement page.
We anticipate that the ceremony will last approximately 2 to 2½ hours.
The graduates can invite six guests to the outdoor Commencement ceremony. If the ceremony moves indoors to the sports complex due to heavy rain, only four guests will be allowed because of fire marshal regulations and building capacity.
For non-ticket holders, the ceremony will be live-streamed and can be viewed in the Hemingway Theatre in the Duffy Academic Center or the McCarthy Auditorium in May Hall.
If the ceremony is held outdoors non-ticket holders are welcome, there will be standing room only in the perimeter of the general seating area.
Rain or shine, guests are invited to watch the live-streamed ceremony in the Hemingway Theatre in the Duffy Academic Center or the McCarthy Auditorium in May Hall.
Yes, it will. You can find the video feed, which will go live before the ceremony begins, on our Commencement event page.

The quad area will open at 8 a.m. Seating selection is on a first come, first served basis. Ushers will be available to direct guests to available seating.

Yes, the College will use a professional photographer who has worked at many past Commencement ceremonies. GradImages will mail information about their services to students’ home addresses. You may visit their website at gradimages.com.
The event will move forward as planned unless lightning makes it unsafe to do so. If that is the case, the ceremony will be moved to the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex. There will be a limit of four guests per graduate for an indoor ceremony.
All residence halls should be vacated by 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 21.
Diplomas can be picked up at the Registrar’s office immediately after the ceremony. Diplomas that are not picked up will be mailed to the graduates' homes. Please make sure your current mailing address is on file.
You will be notified when caps and gowns are available to be picked up at the bookstore in Boland Hall. Pre-measurements are not required.
