Actuarial Mathematics
The Actuarial Mathematics degree at Stonehill equips students to become actuaries and pursue other analytics careers. It also begins preparing them for the exams of the Casualty Actuarial Society and the Society of Actuaries.

There is strong market demand for college graduates capable of applying mathematics, statistics, and financial theory in service of determining risk factors and risk levels in numerous fields.
The Actuarial Mathematics degree draws on Stonehill’s strengths in the academic fields of data science, economics, finance and mathematics. Combined with the College’s emphasis on liberal arts and leadership development, students are prepared for careers in industries that include insurance, accounting and managerial consulting.
The average salary in this region for graduates with actuarial mathematics degrees is $82,287.
Actuarial Mathematics Competitive Advantages
In preparation for the Society of Actuaries (SOA) and Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) exams and required educational experiences, actuarial mathematics students study a variety of topics including:
- Probability (Exam P)
- Financial Mathematics (Exam FM)
- Mathematical Statistics
- Economics
- Accounting & Finance
In addition, students complete coursework on Bayesian Statistics and Generalized Linear Models. Statistical software is used throughout the curriculum to prepare for the increasing technology demands in the field. The actuarial mathematics curriculum reflects the interdisciplinary nature of actuarial work and was developed in close cooperation with the Meehan School of Business. Students complete required courses in finance, economics and accounting taught by full-time business faculty.

Over the past year, there have been 4,008 job postings in New England that require an actuarial mathematics degree. And according to Burning Glass Technologies, the field is expected to grow by 18% in the Boston area and by nearly 23% nationwide.
