Departmental Honors

Students who complete the Honors Program in Economics will be awarded a degree with Honors in Economics. Departmental Honors Scholars must satisfy the following criteria:

  • Minimum grade-point average of 3.3 in the major.
  • Completion of the following pre-requisite courses:
    • ECO 301 Intermediate Microeconomics
    • ECO 303 Intermediate Macroeconomics
    • ECO 241 Economic Statistics
    • ECO 242 Econometrics

Junior Year

Students develop a topic of interest and enlist a member of the economics faculty to mentor their work on a two-semester Honors Thesis.

Senior Year

In the fall semester of the senior year, students enroll in either ECO 421 Seminar in Economic Research or ECO 449 Economics Honors Thesis I, after consultation with their mentor and the ECO 421 instructor.  In both cases, students must demonstrate to the Economics faculty sufficient progress toward an Honors Thesis.

In the spring semester of the senior year, students enroll in ECO 450 Economics Honors Thesis II, in which they complete their Thesis paper and make an oral presentation to the Economics faculty in accordance with the Department’s timetable.

Successful completion of Honors Program requires an Honors Thesis grade of B or better and a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.3. Additional details and deadlines are available from the Department.

Honors Society Affiliations

Omicron Delta Epsilon

Campus chapter, Phi, of the International Honor Society in Economics. Recognizes academic achievement in Economics.

Lambda Epsilon Sigma

Stonehill’s campus-wide honor society, Lambda Epsilon Sigma, recognizes students from all areas of study. Students who have demonstrated a well-rounded thirst for knowledge are invited to apply.
