Course Overview
Teaches very basic use of watercolor and explores its potential. Each class will focus on skills such as: materials preparation, wet-on-wet and dry brush techniques, lifting color, basic color theory, value, glazing and composition. A visual survey of current artists working in the medium will be presented throughout the course.
Course Advantages
Students will receive feedback tailored to their unique goals. The course focuses on individualized instruction, experimentation, and personal growth as opposed to formulas and craft based-assignments. This is not to say the class ignores craft, just that it treats craft as a means to an end rather than as an end unto itself. Fundamental principles of painting will certainly be covered. The instructor will provide demonstration videos, as well as links to excellent print and web resources. The avalanche of information on the internet is curated, saving students time and frustration.
Additional Information
There will be an effort to coordinate some synchronous group and individual meetings since written communication is inadequate for a visual medium. Some things are better shown than told.
Faculty will contact all students after the Tuesday, May 23, registration deadline.
